To accomplish our mission, Student Health Services has identified the following Student Learning Outcome statements to guide our program services:
- Students will maintain and improve their health.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of individual health conditions, what prevention approaches can be taken and appropriate treatment when needed.
- Students will demonstrate personal responsibility by taking actions to improve their health, and the health of others.
- Students will demonstrate skills in accessing and utilizing healthcare resources on campus and in the community.
- Students will demonstrate increased self-awareness, confidence and communication skills.
Student Health Services has a regular cycle of focused assessment linked to each of the Student Learning Outcome (SLO) statements, rotating over a six year time span. The department engages in a variety of student learning assessment activities on an ongoing basis, embedded in our regular operational services. The department has demonstrated a level of proficiency in SLO assessments.
Within the department’s SLO assessment plan, the National College Health Assessment is implemented every three years, collecting extensive data on the health status, perceptions and behaviors of SRJC students. This information assists in many ways, including educational and health promotion interventions with students inside and outside the classroom setting. (For more information see Research and Reports)
Other examples of SLO assessment projects include student learning around conditions being addressed in the health centers, such as anxiety and tuberculosis, learning outcomes from classroom presentations on suicide prevention, and learning outcomes via online communications as related to the Affordable Care Act.For additional information, please contact Susan Quinn at firstname.lastname@example.org.
