Brian Chetcuti is a Health Services Specialist working primarily in the mental health clinic (SPS) of Student Health Services on the Santa Rosa campus. After having the good fortune of working as a mental health intern in Sonoma county, Brian feels lucky and blessed to work with the diverse student population of Santa Rosa Junior College. Having worked seven years as an elementary and middle school teacher just over the hill from where he grew up in San Francisco, Brian went back to graduate school to attain a Master’s degree in Counseling from Sonoma State University in 2009.

Brian works in a supportive role at Student Psychological Services, eager to help students learn about and acquire services offered through our department. “A good portion of our students enrolled in credited classes don’t know that we have all these wonderful services for them. We have good people working here who have and continue to devote their lives toward bringing an all-inclusive approach to healthy living.” As a teacher, Brian understands that learning how to participate in this life is not merely academic and cerebral and that SRJC is a wonderful place to have one experience what is possible. “It is a great skill to know when we should seek and when we should appreciate. It’s great when the two actions meet. Who knows?...Perhaps that can happen every day.”

Having also spent twenty seasons observing how the ocean breathes as a commercial fisherman in Alaska, travelled extensively with a backpack in a number of countries including our beautiful very own, and communicating with relatives in the Bay Area and on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, reminds Brian how unique and important our individual perspectives are and how necessary it is to recognize that in everyone we meet.
