GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking one or more individuals with demonstrated clinical skills to join an outstanding team of managers, faculty and staff to provide high quality clinical and outreach services. This is a part-time, temporary funded Professional Expert position in the Student Health Services Department of Santa Rosa Junior College with potential on becoming a permanent position contingent on funding. The position is 10 hours per week. Work schedules may have variable hours to be determined. Under the direction of the Manager, Student Health Services - Mental Health Programs, the Licensed Therapist is responsible for providing individual and/or group therapy, as well as outreach, to Black/African-American students. Individual therapy for students will include longer-term trauma-informed therapy as well as crisis intervention.  

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Student Health Services is a department with the primary goal of assisting students in removing health barriers that impact their academic success. Through a combination of District staff, contracted professional services, and collaboration with community agencies, services include Clinical Services, Student Psychological Services, Health Promotion (individuals, classrooms, and college-wide events), and a variety of District Support Services. The department is supervised by the Director of Student Health Services, and staff includes College Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants, Mental Health Therapist Trainees, Health Services Assistants, Health Services Specialists, College Physicians (contracted) and Student Health Aides. Student Health Services has offices on the Santa Rosa and Petaluma campuses. The student population served is diverse, and many are not connected with other healthcare resources in the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 

  1. Provides individual, group therapy, and crisis drop-in therapy, as well as outreach to Black/African-American SRJC students.
  2. Establish liaison relationships with relevant student clubs and college departments.
  3. Maintains confidential mental health treatment records;
  4. Provides relevant, up-to-date information about mental health, psychiatric and social service resources both on and off campus;
  5. Refers persons to college and community services

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of general mental health counseling principles, practices, and techniques, particularly as they pertain to Black/African-American clients,  knowledge of Black/African-American culture; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations; relevant research; principles and procedures of record keeping; modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and standard office productivity and other specialized software, and media technology; English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; oral and written communication skills;

Ability to evaluate, treat, and manage acute and serious psychological disorders; maintain accurate and complete records; interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and District policies, laws, and regulations including application of legal and ethical standards of licensed mental health professionals; exercise critical and independent judgment; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population; establish collaborative relationships with staff within Student Health Services and with relevant student clubs and District departments, the college community, and local mental health and social service agencies.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Licensed Therapist with experience providing therapy to Black/African-American clients. Minimum of master’s degree in mental health field (MFT, MSW, Counseling, Psychology.) Increasingly responsible experience providing therapy to adult population.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Candidates selected are required to meet the Licensing requirements to be a therapist in California (MFT, LPC, LCSW, Psychologist)
